Natural Remedies For Yeast Infection

According to the CDC or Centers for disease control and prevention, millions of women are infected with a vaginal yeast infection every year. This condition occurs especially during the summer months due to the high moisture conditions women are exposed to due to extreme heat. It will surely help a lot of women by learning ways on how yeast infection treatment can be done even when at home.

Yeast is usually harmless and it is naturally found all over our body. Yeast works in conjunction with the good bacteria in our bodies to help keep balance and fight off infections. The problem occurs when there is a high production of yeast, which overpowers the good bacteria in our bodies.

Yeast infections are not limited to the vagina. They are prone to develop in body parts that are prone to having high moisture. Infections may occur in the mouth, throat, genitals, armpits, anal area, nasal cavity and digestive tract.

Yeast can multiply rapidly because they can make their own food. When left untreated, they can spread to different parts of the body and cause more complications.

There is a type of internal digestive yeast infection that is characterized by fatigue, upset stomach and change in appetite.

Proper Diagnosis Of Vaginal Yeast Infections

Yeast infection treatment can only be effective once a proper diagnosis is made. There are times when vaginal yeast infections can be mistaken for other health conditions.

There are sexually transmitted diseases that may have the same symptoms like itchiness and vaginal discharge, but vaginal yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted disease. Allergic reactions to feminine cleansing products may also be mistaken for vaginal yeast infection. Hemorrhoids may also have the same symptoms and there are times when the body simply lacks estrogen.

A trip to the doctor can give you a proper diagnosis. A pelvic exam is usually performed to diagnose vaginal yeast infection. A blood test may also be added to make sure that there is a yeast infection.

Yeast can multiply and dig deep into the skin and body. Topical treatments may help relieve symptoms, but not address the root cause of the problem. This may be one of the reasons why there is a high percentage of recurrence in women, yeast that is embedded deep into the skin is not targeted which is why they can still multiply and cause symptoms in the future.

Antibiotic treatment must be avoided as well because they can kill the good bacteria along with the bad. Resistance to antibiotics may also be developed which would make treatment using antibiotics more difficult in the future.

Types Of Vaginal Infection

The most common type is the Candida fungi. This can be found in the vagina and is usually harmless when good bacteria are in adequate amounts and keeps these fungi in check. This type multiplies in hot and humid conditions which causes vaginal infections.

Lactobacilli are the good bacteria present in the vagina along with the Candida. When the number of these good bacteria goes down bacterial vaginosis can develop. Infection causing bacteria known as Gardnerella thrive in this situation. A white, cottage cheese like discharge is present, which can give off a foul odor as well. There may be no other symptoms like itching or burning with this type of infection.
